The Friends’ asso­ci­a­tion Verkehrs­lan­de­platz Eise­nach — Kindel e.V. was found­ed on the Wart­burg on March 2, 1995, with the aim of inte­grat­ing the for­mer mil­i­tary air­field Kindel as quick­ly as pos­si­ble into the eco­nom­ic life and tourism of the Wart­burg region. What sounds like a nor­mal club his­to­ry would not real­ly be worth men­tion­ing if there would not be the spe­cial asso­ci­a­tion purpose.

When the found­ing took place many cit­i­zens’ ini­tia­tives against air­fields have been known but a friend´s and sup­port asso­ci­a­tion for the air­field was new.

The friend´s asso­ci­a­tion set itself the task of sig­nif­i­cant­ly improv­ing the con­di­tions for air traf­fic in the Wart­burg region by means of a con­tin­u­ous sup­port of the air­field in the plan­ning and expan­sion and to estab­lish Eise­nach-Kindel as a major infra­struc­ture element.

In the mean­time, Eise­nach-Kindel has become one of the clas­sic trans­port infra­struc­ture facil­i­ties in the Wart­burg region, just like oth­er infra­struc­ture facil­i­ties for pas­sen­ger and freight trans­port on the road, rail and water. It secures region­al air traf­fic con­nec­tions to for­eign and domes­tic eco­nom­ic cen­ters and has a con­sid­er­able eco­nom­ic impor­tance both as a loca­tion fac­tor and as an eco­nom­ic factor.

To have a mod­est share in this devel­op­ment is still the jus­ti­fi­ca­tion for the friend´s asso­ci­a­tion, whose mem­bers have made a valu­able con­tri­bu­tion to the future of the Wart­burg region over the past twen­ty years.

At present the friend´s asso­ci­a­tion has around 50 mem­bers with numer­ous com­pa­nies and pri­vate indi­vid­u­als from the Wart­burg region, which have been advo­cat­ing a pos­i­tive devel­op­ment of the air­field for years.
