Historical development of the Kindel
|
The aviation history of the Kindel began already 1933/34. Till then
did the Kindel become predominantly country and forest-economically
used. In its center was situated south the at that time Richly road
the Kuenkelhof.
For the combat squadron 253 in Gotha was looked up west the
air base Gotha an area, which corresponded to the tactical request of
an application airfield. In the spring 1934 the geo meters of the
culture board of works in " secret mission " marked the area out. An
airfield with grass runway developed north the Kuenkelhofes.
In the year 1936 by the armed forces surfaces on the Kindel for a
range of the infantry were acquired
At the same time the company of " brothers Thiel " from Ruhla bought
the area south the today's quarry. It established the test
department for garnet? and bomb fuzes; the systems were blown up
1946 / 47.
Of beginning 2. World war by March 1945 used the realm Air Force
the airfield.
On 02.04.1945 landed at the advance of the American armed forces
transport gliders on the Kindel.
In the year 1946 the first units of the Soviet armed forces on the
Kindel arrived, for the time being however only with more easily
technique and hand-held weapons. The training ground was extended and
served now particularly as tank range. Heavy munition arrived
starting from 1950 at the area.
End of the 50's took place the integration of the airfield into the
military training ground of the Russian armed forces at the Kindel.
The former airfield did not correspond however any longer to the
request of modern military aircraft. Directly beside the old
workstation the new military airfield developed.
The building happening became from time to time with approx. 600
- 800 building workers
executed. The necessary earthwork was executed by
Soviet soldiers, mostly convicts.
One transacted all feed over a system, in which up to 80
locomotives with trucks on the way were constant, in order to supply
the individual sections with the necessary building materials.
Each section by a separate building brigade of an
operation of the former DDR one implemented. The
individual brigades had contact for reasons of
security and secrecy hardly among themselves.
The military airfield became with 2,200 m is enough and 60 m broad
concreted start - and roll ways and stop surfaces broad runway and
with 14 m built of altogether 27,000 m². The airfield got a new
access road and a spur track.
1960 / 61 a civilian use of the airfield took place as alternate airport for
Erfurt, which was extended at this time.
Starting from 1960 a constant extension of the troop exercise area
took place into northwest direction. On a surface of approx. 2,400
hectars the troop exercise area spread. Military and civilian systems
were established. Enormous shelters, a whole village with
accommodations, kindergarten, heating station, cinema,
schweinestaellen and a sports field were built. One supplied oneself
with fruit and vegetable. In this, surrounded by fences and walls.
Control center as far as possible the life of the Soviets took
place.
With the political turn 1989 / 90 the Kindel in the course of the
feedback of the entire Soviet armed forces from Germany was vacated
to 27.12.1991 and was first under the administration
of the office for federal fortune.
On 30.06.1992 the release of the former troop exercise area Kindel for
civilian purposes took place via the Federal Ministry of Defense.
In the meantime renowned companies have themselves such as OPELS.
Iron oh, Bosch, FER, active engine components AG etc. in the trade
area Kindel and settled in the surrounding field of iron oh. The
airfield is thereby an important link both for the business and
freight flight and for routistic opportunity traffic. By the good
aviation-specific infrastructure created on the air traffic areas it was
possible to give to the airfield company iron oh ltd. to for 29.09.2000
permission for the system of an airfield and to
06.12.2000 an operation permit for aircraft to 20 t take-off mass.
Due to the 1999 would install night flight beaconing is possible it to use
the traffic landing strip at day and night. As traffic landing strip the
class 1 this is incumbent on a daily opening obligation and
becomes thus the reliable infrastructure item of the region.
For the coming years the development is planned by trade areas for the
aeronautical-engineering trade at the airfield. |
